Torkington joins the U-M staff after most recently serving as a graduate assistant coach at Mercer, and an assistant coach at Pfeiffer from 2010-13.
Torkington, who recently graduated from Mercer with a Master’s of higher education administration, cut his teeth at Pfeiffer as offensive coordinator, earning 18 all-conference players and four USILA All-Americans and aided in the squad going 43-25 during his tenure. Torkington helped the Falcons make three consecutive Carolinas Conference finals appearances while being consistently ranked in the USILA Top-10.
At Pfeiffer, Torkington played the lead role in offensive player development while also heading up recruiting operations and a myriad of other on-field and off-field operations. In his final year at Pfeiffer, Torkington led the team to a program record 13-win season and helped the team reach as high as No. 7 in the USILA national polls.
