Michael Markland-Brevard Head Coach

Michael Markland was named the men’s lacrosse Interim Head Coach in the fall of 2015.

As the assistant coach for the Tornados in 2014, Markland helped the team record eight wins and its first appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Under the guidance of Markland, then-goal keeper Andy Reilly was named South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times while leading the conference in total saves (217) on the third-highest percentage (53.7).

Markland, an Alexandria, Virginia native, was a goalie for the nationally-ranked lacrosse team at Pfeiffer University and earned academic all-conference honors.

Most recently, Markland served as an assistant coach at Fort Mill High School in the Charlotte suburb of Fort Mill, South Carolina, where he helped the Yellow Jackets win the state championship in 2014. He has also coached travel teams.

“This is an opportunity that I’ve been waiting for for quite some time,” said Markland. “I’ve always wanted to become a collegiate coach. This is a dream job for me at this point in my life.”

Markland graduated from Pfeiffer University in 2012 with a degree in Sport Management.
