Corey Bulken is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach on Dom Starsia’s staff and he works with the faceoff specialists.
UVA entered 2015 with 42 career faceoffs among healthy specialists on the team. Bulken worked with Jason Murphy, who led UVA with a .505 winning percentage (109-of-216).
Bulken came to UVA after one season as an assistant coach with DII Belmont Abbey College.
Prior to his time at Belmont Abbey College, Bulken spent two years as an assistant coach at DIII Washington College in Chestertown, Md. The faceoff unit at Washington College went from winning 40 percent of its draws the season before he arrived to 55 percent in year one and 64 percent in year two. Mike Trapp won 61 percent of his draws under Bulken’s tutelage and was named an All-American.
Bulken arrived at Washington College in the summer of 2011 after a senior season at Le Moyne College. Bulken led NCAA Division II in face-off percentage, winning 69.2 percent of his draws, and was named the USILA Division II Specialty Player of the Year as a senior in 2011.
A two-time USILA All-American, Bulken earned first-team honors as a senior and second-team honors as a junior. He was also named to the All-Northeast 10 Conference first-team following both of those seasons. Bulken was named Le Moyne’s Male Athlete of the Year and was his team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native led Le Moyne in face-off percentage three consecutive years and in ground balls two consecutive years, and played in three consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship games.
During his collegiate lacrosse career, Bulken also worked as a counselor and coach at several lacrosse camps in central New York and completed an internship with Le Moyne’s sports information department. He was chosen to attend the 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
Upon graduation, Bulken made his Major League Lacrosse debut with the Charlotte Hounds where he spent the 2012 season.
Bulken earned a B.A. in communications with a concentration in public relations from Le Moyne in 2011.
